Class Description
3rd - 5th grade 14 week session Tuesdays 6:30-7:30 pm No class March 11 or April 8. This semester long Art Skills class offers a study of the elements and principles of art geared towards 3rd-5th grade artists. In Art Skills, students will fine tune their basic understanding of the elements and principles or art through drawing, painting, and sculptural lessons. We will teach students how to draw and create what they see (vs. drawing what they think they see), and recognize the relationship between objects, positive and negative spaces, proportion, light, shadow, texture, and dimension. Students will practice learned techniques using a variety of materials, including graphite, chalk, colored pencils, pen & ink, acrylic and watercolor paints. To commence the session, students will partake and their very own class art show to share their achievements with family and friends. Date TBD. Students will pursue the following learning objectives: Will explore color (contrast, intensity, and value) Will explore perspective, line, rhythm, and movement. Will explore form, space, shape. Will explore emphasis, texture, unity, balance, and pattern. Will explore procedure and appropriate usage of materials. Will explore concepts (could include, but not limited to landscape, museum, design, portraits, creatures, still life, world art, universal themes and personal expression). At TN Art Yard, we value creative thinking and exploration, which includes learning the artists and processes that came before us. We aim to provide a balanced curriculum of personal exploration and art history in each session. *10% sibling discounts available upon request. **Payment plans available upon request.
